Breaking the Bank of Monte Carlo
In the gambling industry, the phrase ‘breaking the bank’ means to win every possible chip on the table, and this was coined when Charles Deville Wells won 1 million French Francs at a Monte Carlo casino. The year was 1891; he spent approximately 11 hours in the casino playing table games, walking away with 1 million Francs (worth a fortune in present day currency).

The Run

He loaned $10,000 and turned it into a phenomenal $40 million just three years later. Only, it wasn’t all good news – for Karas lost it all later that same year. Karas is thought to have gambled the most money ever in casinos.
Blackjack Champion
Don Johnson, a professional American gambler, seriously hurt casinos on a winning spree in 2010. Over a period of 18 months, he beat $6 million, $5 million and $4 million dollars out of Tropicana, Borgata and Caesars, respectively. Johnson is now banned from playing at Caesars, and limited to what and how he can play at Borgata and Tropicana.
